John McCutcheon

John McCutcheon is one of the most popular and respected performers on the folk scene. A multi-instrumentalist on guitar, banjo, fiddle, hammered dulcimer, and more, John is also an excellent songwriter and interpreter of traditional songs and tunes. The Washington Post said of John’s songwriting, “Storytelling with the richness of fine literature.” And Pete Seeger said of John, “One of our country’s best songwriters.” John has collaborated with some of the top songwriters in the country including Tom Paxton, Si Kahn, Holly Near, and Tom Chapin. In 2006 he released an album of collaborations entitled “Mightier Than the Sword,” in which he co-wrote songs with some of his favorite authors including Barbara Kingsolver, Wendel Berry, and Lee Smith. John’s 36 albums have earned 6 Grammy nominations and his song “Christmas In the Trenches” was recently named one of the 100 Essential Folk Songs.
