Ellis Paul really needs no introduction. He’s appeared on our stage a number of times over the years and his great songwriting, powerful vocals, and instrumental chops always impress. Ellis has released a long string of critically acclaimed albums and has been inducted into the Maine Music Hall of Fame, his home state. His music has also been used in three movies, “Me, Myself, and Irene” starring Jim Carrey, “Hall Pass” and “Shallow Hal,” and his children’s album “The Hero in You” won a Parents Choice Award. Grammy winning finger picking guitarist Pat Donohue’s devotion to acoustic guitar has made him an American standard as he echoes the tones of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Charlie Parker, or Merle Travis. For almost 20 years he was the guitarist and songwriter for the popular radio show, A Prairie Home Companion, leaving recently to return to the life of a touring musician and guitar teacher. He has captivated audiences with his unique original compositions, dazzling instrumentals, and humorous song parodies. Pat won a Grammy in 2005 for his participation on Pink Guitar, a compilation of Henry Mancini tunes on acoustic guitar, several Minnesota Music Awards, and the title National Finger Picking Guitar Champion. His original tunes have been recorded by Chet Atkins, Suzy Bogguss, and Kenny Rogers. Another “don’t miss” show!

This young, 5-piece folk/Americana band from Chicago draws audiences in with originality and soulful energy. They have only been together for 2 years but have already developed an enthusiastic and growing following. The band features Austin Thompson on guitar, lead and harmony vocals, Collin Krause on mandolin, fiddle, and lead and harmony vocals, John Merikoski on drums and percussion, and John Williams on upright bass. Three of the band members are songwriters
and all of the musicians have professional training which they mix with their roots backgrounds. In 2014 the band won Deli Magazine Readers’ Choice title of “Chicago’s Best Emerging Band.” Come check out this band on the rise!

Richard has performed for Fiddle & Bow several times over the years and audiences have enjoyed his great guitar work and his droll sense of humor. Whether on 6 or 12-string guitar, Richard has mastered many styles based on his early music listening which ranged from the Beatles, to J.S. Bach, to John Fahey, to Andres Segovia.

He honed his skills in the late ‘70’s while at the University of Alabama and began performing on the coffee house circuit. By the ‘80’s he had moved to Florida and abandoned corporate life to perform full-time. He released his first album during this time, “Somewhere In Between.”

A Grammy nominee and social activist, Seth is “an adept song craftsman and elegantly emotional vocalist…harkening back to the early pop/rock traditional of Billy Joel and early Springsteen” (iTunes Editorial). Backing himself on guitar or piano, Seth is ably backed on vocals and saxophone by his traveling companion Joe Nerney.

Seth is also an outspoken advocate for autism awareness and has been a National spokesperson for autism awareness organization Autism Speaks. His song “Love Is a Language” was inspired by his non-verbal autistic brother.

When Kipyn Martin performed for Fiddle & Bow on July 1st she did several covers of Joni Mitchell songs which absolutely blew us away. When she and Allison Shapira met at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance conference in 2013 Allison was what she refers to as a “recovering opera singer” become songwriter. The two ladies soon realized how much their own songwriting had been influenced by their two musical heroes and the 60’s Folk Revival and the tribute show was born.
This should be a really special show featuring two fine singer/songwriters paying tribute to two legends of the Folk Revival.

Award-winning Canadian songwriter from Nova Scotia, his latest album, “Domestic Eccentric,” was made with Grammy-winning artist Tim O’Brien and has been nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in the Solo Artist of the Year category. In 2012 Old Man Luedecke was nominated for a Juno (Canadian Grammy) for “Tender Is The Night,” also recorded with Tim O’Brien.  He accompanies himself on banjo and guitar and writes in a somewhat old-time style which is accentuated with his fine clawhammer style banjo playing.  His show a couple of years ago was well-received.  Opening for Old Man Luedecke will be local singer songwriter David Petty.

The word must have been out on Joe Crookston when he performed for us in 2015 at one of the first Muddy Creek Music Hall shows.  We had a packed house and his show was one of the best of the year.  Joe is an Ithaca, NY based songwriter who was named 2016 Folk Alliance International Artist In Residence.  He is a story-teller in song and backs his songs with fine guitar and fiddle.  Multi-award winning Canadian songwriter David Francey said of Joe, “At every festival I hope to find the gift of one artist whose songwriting and performance stand out.  Joe was that gift for me this year at the Philadelphia Folk Festival.  Stunning performance, great songs, and not a word wasted.  I LOVE that!”

Little Windows creates a beautiful blend of Irish and Appalachian music and traditionally-based originals with a special focus on unaccompanied ballads. Duo Julee Glaub Weems and Mark Weems tour together nationally and abroad with a focus on the art of the pure voice with tight harmonies in traditional songs, providing instrumentation that includes guitar, fiddle, banjo, flute, piano, and bodhrán (Irish frame drum). In addition to performing concerts, they also teach workshops and music camps around the country and have developed their own Camp Little Windows. Interviewed numerous times on NPR’s The Thistle and Shamrock Celtic music program and an integral part of Fiona Ritchie and Doug Orr’s recent NY Times best seller (Wayfaring Strangers), they are the founders of the N.C. School of Traditional Music, which offers weekly lessons for all ages, and Julee is the coordinator for Traditional Song Week at the Swannanoa Gathering each summer at Warren Wilson Colllege.

Vance Gilbert opened our four year plus run at the Community Arts Cafe back in 2011 after a long absence from our stage and we were reminded what a great performer he is. He has the “whole package,” as we like to say – an accomplished guitarist, a versatile singer and one of the wittiest  artists on the folk scene. You get it all in a Vance Gilbert performance! This former multi-cultural arts teacher was born and raised in the Philadelphia area but first became known when word spread of how he was knocking them dead at the open mics at the Northeastern folk clubs. He was invited to open for Shawn Colvin on her 1992 Fat City Tour and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram wrote, “With the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god, it was enough to win him that rarity; an encore for an opener.” As you can tell, it isn’t often that Vance gets down our way. Don’t miss this chance to hear one of the folk scene’s finest!
