Matuto

When this great band performed for Fiddle & Bow in 2014 they had everyone on their feet by the end of the night. Matuto is a quartet based around the core of Clay Ross on guitar and Rob Curto on accordion. Clay’s virtuosic guitar playing combines the flatpicking prowess of bluegrass legend Tony Rice and the sonic depth of jazz master Bill Frisell, whether plucking three-chord folk melodies or sophisticated Brazilian Choros. Rob Curto, an early devotee of North American swing music, bebop piano, funk, rock and roll and blues, has combined these influences with his mastery of their Brazilian counterparts, forro, chorinho, samba, and other genres producing stunning results. Joining Clay and Rob on this tour will be Aynsley Powell on drums and Itaiguara Brandao on bass. This is a really exciting band and they’re not to be missed!
