Jonathan Byrd & The Pick Up Cowboys

Jonathan Byrd is one of the folk/Americana scene’s finest songwriters and performers. Rich Warren of station WFMT in Chicago called Jonathan “…one of the top 50 songwriters of the last 50 years.” And Scott Alarik of the Boston Globe said “This rootsy North Carolinian may be the most buzzed-about songwriter in folkdom.” Byrd grew up singing in the Southern Baptist Church where his father preached and his mother played the piano. After a stint in the Navy and trying other types of music, he settled on a songwriting style steeped in the traditional music of the South after attending a fiddler’s convention in southwestern Virginia. He has now been a full-time musician for 12 years and has released eight critically acclaimed recordings. Jonathan will be playing with his three-piece band, The Pick Up Cowboys.

Opening for Jonathan will be Jim Sharkey, a native of Ireland and former resident of Winston-Salem. Jim now lives in Roanoke, VA and just released his first album last year, Sweet Anne’s Road, a collection of traditional and original songs.
